I will be adding to the Virtual Talent Show from the top of the page as I receive new videos.
Julia Albany! Nice work. Julia was accepted to several colleges for music but has decided on attending Michigan State University for music education. While she can obviously sing, she's primarily a flute (and piccolo) player which is her primary instrument that she auditioned with. Congrats!
Taylor Ridings (above) will be studying social work at college this fall. She's a fine singer, too. Nice job.
Sara Huffmaster. Sara has been auditioning for college musical theater programs and is also starring as Sophie in "Mama Mia!"
Excellent job, Sara! Anna and Emily Bruce follow with a song from the (hopefully) upcoming spring musical, "Mama Mia" by Abba, "Chiquitita". The 'Wonder Twins' are playing the characters, Tanya and Rosie.
Fantastic! Katie Loger brings her vocals to the stage next. Katie is in the musical ensemble and plays clarinet.
Very nice work, Katie. Alexa Francis, another THS drum major, plays her state solo and ensemble qualified flute solo next. Alexa also plays one of Sophie's friends, Ali, in "Mama Mia".
Yet another THS drum major, Ashley Marshall, sings her "quarantine" version of "Dancing Queen" from "Mama Mia". Ashley is playing the lead character, Donna Sheridan, in this year's production. Take it away, Ashley!
Awesome as always, Ashley. Next up is Taylor Ridings. Taylor does everything- she's been in chorus, band, guitar, plays ukelele, sings in talent shows, coffee houses, and has been in four THS musicals. Take it away, Taylor!
Fabulous work, Taylor. To end our first Virtual Talent Show, we have freshman Olivia Schotthoefer. Olivia is in chorus, will be in band next fall, and plays Lisa in "Mama Mia!"
Great work, Olivia - the future is bright!
That does it for today's Virtual Talent Show. Let's plan for another one soon! I'll leave this one up and will add the next one to the top. Submit your performances to me and you'll be a part Virtual Talent Show #2! (Yes - you can submit another one, Sara/Ashley/Alexa/Taylor/Katie/Anna/Emily/Olivia!)
Coda: I thought I'd add something else today. I perform with a semiprofessional group - the Monroe Big Band. In December, we played a couple of Christmas gigs at the Harbor Inn and Ale in Monroe and recorded it live. (I just got the sound files yesterday.) Here's is one of the songs - that's me on the flugelhorn solo (beginning) and at around the 1:55 mark, I'm the high note trumpet player. Kids hear me play guitar, piano, sing, hammered dulcimer (once - lol), bass guitar, and some band instruments here and there (especially the fifth graders) but don't ever get to hear what I do on trumpet with pro groups so here we go on a holiday jazz arrangement of "Silent Night" - I'm in the Virtual Talent Show!
