Money is due by September 27 to guarantee a spot on the bus!
The Band Boosters will also put together candy bags for the students to enjoy at the park. We are looking for donations for the candy. Please donate a bag of snack size, Halloween candy to the boosters and we will assemble the bags. Candy can be dropped off at any practice to the auditorium lobby. Last night's practice went very well with all drill and visuals finished. Now comes the process of cleaning drill and making sure the music and the drill is as powerful as possible. Wednesday night's practice - if dry - will be putting music to segment 4 while teaching those who missed Monday's practice the drill and visuals. If it's wet, we will be inside and will still work on visuals as much as we can plus. The pit will stay inside to rehearse for sure no matter what as there are several who are not in 2nd period class and subsequently are falling behind the rest of the group musically.
We will have Mrs. Irvin's uniform presentation at the Monday, Sept 16 practice where we will start practice in the band room for the first 15 minutes.
WEDNESDAY SEPT 18 is a massively important practice as we will be IN FULL UNIFORM on the main field under the lights to work out all of our segment 4 magic as well as to get a full distribution/return of uniforms done before the busy invitational day on Sept 21. Uniforms will begin distribution at 5 pm. I still expect all band members to be on the field and ready for stretch in FULL UNIFORM at 6 pm. Don't be the ones walking casually to practice at 6:10 pm - don't be part of the problem, be part of the solution.
MON (9th) Practice (6pm - 8pm)
Boosters Meeting (7pm in the Trojan Cafe aka the small lunch room)
WED (11th) Practice (6pm - 8pm)
SAT (14th) Victory Day (Students report at 9:30am in this year's show shirts - shorts are allowed)
Tuesday September 3rd First Day of School
Wednesday September 4th Practice 600pm-800pm
Attendance and grading policy for practices and performances will be clearly explained in class this week:
Policy will be exactly like any other Trenton HS curricular class. For example, you cannot miss a 4th period class for a DYPAC rehearsal, a cousins birthday party, or a “surprise concert” thus you cannot miss a required practice or performance.
Attendance is not a choice, it is a requirement.
- if you are absent from school that day
- if you are involved with a THS sport or THS event event such as homecoming rehearsals or College Night
- if you have a written AND emailed parent excuse two weeks in advance for a special event such as a wedding
- if you have a doctors note for an absence when you attended school that day
- if a PARENT has officially arranged regular absences that have been approved by Mr. Kurilko and THS (Detroit Civic Jazz or Orchestra for example)
Attendance will be taken immediately after the stretch at each practice and event at opening set.
Grades WILL be affected by unexcused absences. Future leadership positions (drum major, captains) of course will also be affected. THERE IS NO MAKE UP - an absence is permanent. Gym credit may also be affected.
****A one-half letter grade cut will be applied for every unexcused absence by trimester end***
I want to make it very clear that community youth theater, church band rehearsals, AND WORK SCHEDULES are not an excused absence nor is “study time.” You have plenty of time before and after our short, twice a week only practices to study.
I do not anticipate many unexcused absences but school policies must be applied when they do occur. PARENTS WILL BE CONTACTED ON THE SPOT IF A STUDENT IS UNEXCUSED ABSENT - if a student is not at practice, the parent might not be aware thus a call WILL be made. We have had students skip practice, tell parents they were at practice, and were getting in trouble that the police were involved. Parents WILL be contacted within minutes if unexcused.
